Where the Wind
Meets the Barley
– Carnsore Point, Co. Wexford
Recorded: 12th June 2025
This immersive field recording begins at Carnsore Point, Ireland’s most south-easterly tip, where the raw energy of the Irish Sea meets open sky. The air is thick with Atlantic wind, and waves crash rhythmically along the rocky shore—a place shaped by weather, solitude, and salt.
From the coast, the soundscape moves inland across open pasture and cultivated fields, where gusts whistle through the wire of a weathered farm fence. The wind, ever-present, now meets rows of barley, their heads swaying and hissing softly as they brush against one another like a thousand whispered conversations.
As the journey continues northward across the headland, the harshness softens. We pass through stretches of low-lying farmland, where wild hedgerows offer momentary shelter and birdsong returns to the air. Insects buzz among the grasses and sea pinks, and the barley hums with a quiet energy all its own.
The piece concludes at Nethertown Beach, a remote shoreline where the landscape opens once more to the sea. Here, the recording finds rest in the rustle of crops, the rhythm of retreating waves, and the gentle lull of Wexford’s coastal light—a day in motion, grounded in the land.
